The Dolly Show was a network family variety show on the ABC TV network, featuring music and comedy which was directly aimed at a mainstream audience. Unfortunately the show, although not a ratings failure, was not the kind of show Dolly envisioned. She had little control initially, with too many Hollywood guests and silly “acted” comedy skits. As the series progressed these segments were dropped and the guests and music which Dolly could relate to, would play a more prominent part. The ratings did pick up and another season was discussed, but Dolly decided against it.
